| Should I forgive husband for cheating while very drunk? We have two babies.? I feel sick to my stomach. He went out on saturday night (very rarely ever goes out) and came home at 7.45am in the morning. I was a bit suss, but trusted him fully. Never trusted anyone more in my life! I asked him where he stayed and he said in a motel as I couldnt get a cab home (we live about an hour from city so was suss but plausable. he was very standoffish for 2 days and then admitted it on Tuesday night and broke down bawling and crying and was a broken a man as you will ever see. I kicked him out and he is staying on a friends couch. , I did not cry or yell at him, just told him he was going to hurt from this more than me and he could count on that!! Anyway, I know with all my heart that he never would have done this sober and he doesnt understand how he could do it either. He thought he was a perfect husband and not capable of this. So did I. We have 2 babies together. 2.5 years and 11 months. he is begging me to go to counselling and he has been looking for help everywhere, including going to AA - even though he doesnt drink often he obviously has a problem. he even went to a catholoc church to see the priest as he thinks he must have some kind of 'demons' inside him that he didnt know were there. he never drinks to the point of being drunk and in the 5 years we have been together I have never seen him loose control on alcohol. From all reports from the people he was with, he was very drunk. he got kicked out of the pub and then when he couldnt get a cab home I think he must have gone to a bar alone. he says he cant remember anything of meeting the girl, where he met her, what her name was what she looked like or anything. he told me all he remembers (apart from a couple of other flashbacks to standing at bar etc) is her on top of him having sex with her and him coming "out" of whatever delusional state he was in, feeling horrified, pushing her off and then coweing in the corner crying and telling her to **** off, then going into the shower, she tried talking to him and he was screaming at er to **** off. he reckons that he remembers nothing else of her. Other than she was brunette and still had her bra and singlet on when he pushed her off!! The little F%$Ker!!! I am so mad. What do I do? I am thinking of having a separation for a couple months so I can move on. I will never be able to let go of this and how can you ever trust again. I grew up with a womanising father and this has opened up so many of those woulnds. he knew that! I know that nop matter how drunk I got, I would never have done that to him. My babies have been missing their dad so I have told him he can come over from 5.30-7.30 every night to do their bedtime routine and so they think things are normal. I go the gym when he is here. I am being so strong for them and have not cried around them. he supports us financially. he told me if I chose to leave him I could have every cent he ever makes and everything he ever owns. I know how sad and regretful he is. Do you think it is possible that someone can be so delusional thinking they are perfect and not acknowledge the dark side of themselves and what they are capable of. can this reality then be acted on when drunk? he was raised by his mum and grandma in a very catholic family and has always tried to seem perfect. I am confused, saddened and lost. I ahve not told anybody either as if I take him back I dont want everyone to know. Feel so alone. I dont want them to hate him if I chose to forgive and I dont want people to think I am weak. PS. Our relationship has had some minor problems and sex life has been reduced - but I have had his 2 babies - that causes stress in any relationship and no reason to cheat!!!!! Nobody is perfect and of course we all make mistakes, weather you choose to forgive this man is completely up to you, but I will tell you that if you do forgive him, it is going to take alot of hard work, counseling, seeking God, whatever it takes to get your relationship right again, and then it will still never be right again because of that broken trust. I will tell you this though, from what you described he does sound sincere and truly sorry, he is willing to do whatever it takes and that is a good sign and he came out and told you what had happened right away he didn't keep it from you. So if you are willing to forgive him and you are both willing to work at it 100% then I would say go ahead and give him another chance, but like I said that is entirely up to you. I would make some rules though, like no more drinking, no more staying out all night with friends, ect.. |
